Los Angeles Cardiologist – Taking Care of Your Heart

Los Angeles is famous for its medical and cosmetic procedures because of the availability of advanced equipment and also the best surgeons in the county. Cardiology is the medical specialty that deals with disorders of the heart and a Cardiologist is a doctor with special training and skill in finding, testing and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels. A Cardiologist may perform treatment for different types of heart diseases.
A Los Angeles Cardiologist performs a wide range of tasks on a daily basis, from using medical imaging studies to diagnose a heart condition to working with a cardiac surgeon to establish a treatment plan for a patient. Prior to any heart treatment, the patient has to undergo CT heart scan, which is an imaging method that uses x-rays to create detailed pictures of the heart and its blood vessels.
Computed tomography, also called CT scan is performed effectively with the help of the advanced CT scanner. During the procedure, the patient may lie down on a narrow table that slides into the center of the CT scanner, with electrodes put on the chest of the patient and connected to a machine recording heart electrical activity. A computer creates separate images of the body area, called slices and the slices may be stored, viewed on a monitor or printed on film. Three-dimensional models of the heart may also be created by stacking the slices together.
CT heart scan provides benefits to both the patient and the Cardiologist. These may be:

  • Very rapid acquisition of images
  • A wealth of clear and specific information
  • A view of large portion of the body

A Los Angeles Cardiologist may use tools like stress testing, cardiac catheterization, radiology studies, and a variety of other techniques to diagnose heart conditions. If the Cardiologist decides that a condition needs to be treated surgically, then a cardiothoracic surgeon may be required to perform surgery along with Cardiologist. Typically, after a surgery is completed, a Cardiologist may perform follow-up care to ensure that the surgery went well and the patient stays healthy.
